Common Materials Used For Sheet Metal Chassis Enclosures

1-General Cold Rolled Sheet SPCC

SPCC is a steel coil or plate of the required thickness rolled continuously from ingots through a cold rolling mill. There is no protection on the surface of SPCC. When exposed to air, it is susceptible to oxidation, especially in humid environments where oxidation accelerates and dark red rust appears. The surface of the precision sheet metal chassis housing should be painted, plated or otherwise protected during processing.

2-Stainless Steel SUS304

This is one of the most widely used stainless steels with better corrosion and heat resistance than chromium-containing steels due to its nickel content. It has very good mechanical properties, no heat treatment hardening and no elasticity.

3-Hot Dip Galvanized Steel Coil SGCC

Hot dip galvanized steel coil (Hot dip placed steel coil) is a semi-finished product that has been hot rolled, pickled or cold rolled, cleaned, annealed, dipped into a molten zinc bath at a temperature of approximately 460°C and coated with a zinc layer, then quenched, tempered, levelled and chemically treated. SGCC material is harder than Sago material, less ductile (avoid deep-drawn design), thicker zinc layer and poor weldability.

4-Stainless Steel SUS301

Has a lower chromium content than SUS304 and is less resistant to corrosion. However, after cold working, good tension and hardness can be obtained during the stamping process and good elasticity. Mainly used for spring plate springs and electromagnetic interference protection.

5-Galvanized Steel Sheet SECC

After degreasing, pickling, plating and various post-treatment processes on a continuous zinc plating line, the precision sheet metal chassis enclosure becomes a zinc plated product. SECC not only has the mechanical properties and similar processing properties of ordinary cold rolled steel sheets, but also has excellent corrosion resistance and decorative appearance.

These tell us that the processing of sheet metal chassis cases is highly competitive and replaceable in the electronics, household appliances and furniture markets.
